A friend texted me the other day saying how much she loved my fridge. She reeeeally wanted me to do a post on what I fill that baby with. I thought, what a great idea! When she texted me, it happened to be empty. But the next day was grocery shopping day, so I kept her in mind.
Call my crazy, but one of my favorite things to do is plan meals and grocery shop. I LOVE food and cooking. I always plan out a full week of meals and shop on one day. I have two reasons for this. ONE, it helps on week nights when I get home from work and have to cook (which is every day). If I didn’t have a plan I would probably have a panic attack… or eat cereal every night. TWO, it saves money and helps us stay within our budget! I get enough for the week and when I run out, I’m out. Each time I go to the grocery store, I grab a few unplanned items…can I get an AMEN?! Those impulse buys add up. Another plan-ahead tactic of mine is prepping as much for dinner as I can on Sunday so I can quickly pull together our meals during the week. But that will be a separate post in itself!
So here it is! The moment you’ve been waiting for. These are the goodies I stock in my fridge:
1 – In the bottom drawer I keep my produce (lettuce, veggies, apples, etc)
2 – Next comes school lunches for the week. I will do a post on this, but long story short, I make at least three days worth of school lunches for the kids (MORE ON THAT HERE) so I don’t have to mess with it in the morning. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
3 – The middle drawer is all of our cheeses (there are a lot of them), tortillas, and lunch meats.
4 – Then on the shelf above that is any prepared dressings or smaller condiments. I also put fruit on that shelf, like berries, that the kids can reach.
4 – Above that comes my dinner prep items (basically anything I cook ahead). I have a SEPARATE POST ON THAT HERE where I go into more detail about how I prep for the week! These are my favorite posts to do.
5 – And on the top, I have taller things: creamer, yogurt (my favorite brand in the whole world is this Wallaby Aussie Plain Greek Yogurt, unsweetened almond milk (THIS brand is my fav because the ingredients are super clean), alcohol, hard boiled eggs, and chicken stock (Pacific is the ONLY brand I use. It’s THE BEST).
I hope you enjoyed taking a peak in my fridge! There’s lots of cooking and eating happening in our kitchen, and I love every second of it!
